The Aim of MCAC Verbal Arts Programme
The aim of the MCAC Verbal Arts Programme is to deliver a diverse verbal arts programme that will include all aspects of the spoken word—from poetry, prose, drama and comedy to songwriting, oral history and storytelling. Our events will highlight verbal arts locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
This programme will deliver a broad spectrum of verbal arts that will ‘Alter Perceptions’ and encourage debate that will spark and inspire creativity, re-connecting the oral histories of the local area. It will serve not only to cultivate interest in the verbal arts for a new generation, but also to regenerate interest in these areas for the general public.
In the future MCAC looks forward to working with organisations to promote readings, workshops, audio/verbal recordings and mixing, as well as book launches. A Verbal Artist-in-Residency will be established at the Centre. We are also in the early stages of building a verbal and visual archive, which will include art books, magazines, and other periodicals.
