Outreach
Includes all aspects of creative participation through partnerships in the local communities. Workshops, classes, talks and instruction are all part of a three-part Outreach initiative (visual, verbal and multimedia). Specific initiatives have been developed and include a Rural and Urban Art Initiative, the production of a six-film project and a series of site-specific sculptural installations.
First is the In Our Own Voices: A Rural and Urban Art Initiative, which is fundamentally a community art outreach program. The initiative will serve to catalyse youthful participation at MCAC. The project will include three groups (South Lough Neagh, Craigavon/Brownlow, and Portadown). MCAC will facilitate three workshops, in three different months (February, March and April) that investigate identity, self-perception, the perception of others and the society in which we live through the use of the Visual, Verbal Arts and Multimedia arts.
The second is ‘M1: Inclusion not Exclusion’ an initiative partnered with ‘First Light Studio Award Scheme’ from Hi8tus. Building on the success of our pilot ‘Project P’ film with three local youth groups, the project is to develop another six short films with six other local groups which reflect the diversity of young people’s lives in Craigavon. Youth between the ages of 7-18 will be targeted.
The third initiative is a public art project ‘CHANGE’. MCAC will commission three to six artists to work with community groups in site-specific sculpture installations around Craigavon. The issues will be decided upon by the artist in conjunction with the Community Groups, but will be based on dealing with a range of issues around the development and change in the area (particularly with the new Portadown Development Framework).
PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME
MCAC is keen to work in partnership with groups in locating funding and providing administrative and research support for specific visual and verbal arts projects.
